We report an improved measurement of D0-D0bar mixing and a search for CP violation in D0 decays to CP-even final states K+K- and pi+pi-. The measurement is based on the final Belle data sample of 976/fb. The results are y_CP=(1.11 +- 0.22 +- 0.09)% and A_Gamma=(-0.03 +- 0.20 +- 0.07)%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.

The absence of a neutrino flux from self-annihilating dark matter captured in the Sun has tightly constrained some leading particle dark matter scenarios. The impact of astrophysical uncertainties on the capture process of dark matter in the Sun and hence also the derived constraints by neutrino telescopes need to be taken into account. In this review we have explored relevant uncertainties in solar WIMP searches, summarized results from leading experiments, and provided an outlook into...

In this paper, we prove a new functional inequality of Hardy-Littlewood type for generalized rearrangements of functions. We then show how this inequality provides {\em quantitative} stability results of steady states to evolution systems that essentially preserve the rearrangements and some suitable energy functional, under minimal regularity assumptions on the perturbations. In particular, this inequality yields a {\em quantitative} stability result of a large class of steady state solutions...

The broadcast nature of the wireless medium allows unintended users to eavesdrop the confidential information transmission. In this regard, we investigate the problem of secure communication between a source and a destination via a wireless energy harvesting untrusted node which acts as a helper to relay the information; however, the source and destination nodes wish to keep the information confidential from the relay node. To realize the positive secrecy rate, we use destination-assisted...

We explore boundary scattering in the sine-Gordon model with a non-integrable family of Robin boundary conditions. The soliton content of the field after collision is analysed using a numerical implementation of the direct scattering problem associated with the inverse scattering method. We find that an antikink may be reflected into various combinations of an antikink, a kink, and one or more breathers, depending on the values of the initial antikink velocity and a parameter associated with...

In this paper we consider distributed optimization problems in which the cost function is separable, i.e., a sum of possibly non-smooth functions all sharing a common variable, and can be split into a strongly convex term and a convex one. The second term is typically used to encode constraints or to regularize the solution. We propose a class of distributed optimization algorithms based on proximal gradient methods applied to the dual problem. We show that, by choosing suitable primal variable...

This review surveys the territory of supersymmetry beyond the vanilla MSSM. With a viewpoint guided by electroweak naturalness, the review focuses on constructions that weaken or bypass current LHC constraints. Models of SUSY containing Dirac gluinos, compressed spectra, flavor-violating squarks, R-parity violation, stealth sectors, exotic detector objects, and more are discussed. In addition to presenting ways of hiding SUSY, these models highlight a few opportunities to improve LHC coverage.

We identify a scalar-tensor model embedded in the Horndeski action whose cosmological background and linear scalar fluctuations are degenerate with the concordance cosmology. The model admits a self-accelerated background expansion at late times that is stable against perturbations with a sound speed attributed to the new field that is equal to the speed of light. While degenerate in scalar fluctuations, self-acceleration of the model implies a present cosmological tensor mode propagation at...

Under a spectral assumption on the Laplacian of a Poincar\'e--Einstein manifold, we establish an energy inequality relating the energy of a fractional GJMS operator of order $2\gamma\in(0,2)$ or $2\gamma\in(2,4)$ and the energy of the weighted conformal Laplacian or weighted Paneitz operator, respectively. This spectral assumption is necessary and sufficient for such an inequality to hold. We prove the energy inequalities by introducing conformally covariant boundary operators associated to the...

The spread of an infection on a real-world social network is determined by the interplay of two processes: the dynamics of the network, whose structure changes over time according to the encounters between individuals, and the dynamics on the network, whose nodes can infect each other after an encounter. Physical encounter is the most common vehicle for the spread of infectious diseases, but detailed information about encounters is often unavailable because expensive, unpractical to collect or...

We propose a derivative-free Milstein scheme for stochastic partial differential equations with trace class noise which fulfill a certain commutativity condition. The same theoretical order of convergence with respect to the spatial and time discretizations as for the Milstein scheme is obtained whereas the computational cost is, in general, considerably lower. As the main result, we show that the effective order of convergence of the proposed derivative-free Milstein scheme is significantly...

In this paper we consider dynamical properties of set-valued mappings and their implications on the associated inverse limit space. Specifically, we define the specification property and topological entropy for set-valued functions and prove some elementary results of these properties. We end with a few results regarding invariant measures for set-valued functions and their associated inverse limits.

A variant of the well-known Chebyshev inequality for scalar random variables can be formulated in the case where the mean and variance are estimated from samples. In this paper we present a generalization of this result to multiple dimensions where the only requirement is that the samples are independent and identically distributed. Furthermore, we show that as the number of samples tends to infinity our inequality converges to the theoretical multi-dimensional Chebyshev bound.

Electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS) offers a window to view nanoscale properties and processes. When performed in a scanning transmission electron microscope, EELS can simultaneously render images of nanoscale objects with sub-nanometer spatial resolution and correlate them with spectroscopic information of $\sim10 - 100$ meV spectral resolution. Consequently, EELS is a near-perfect tool for understanding the optical and electronic properties of individual and few-particle plasmonic metal...

We present a model for the $\gamma^\ast N \to N^\ast$ helicity amplitudes, where $N$ is the nucleon and $N^\ast$ is a negative parity nucleon excitation, member of the $SU(6)$-multiplet $[70,1^-]$. The model combines the results from the single quark transition model for the helicity amplitudes with the results of the covariant spectator quark model for the $\gamma^\ast N \to N^\ast(1535)$ and $\gamma^\ast N \to N^\ast(1520)$ transitions. We significantly expand the number of functions whose image under the fractional Laplace operator can be computed explicitly. In particular, we show that the fractional Laplace operator maps Meijer G-functions of |x|^2, or generalized hypergeometric functions of -|x|^2, multiplied by a solid harmonic polynomial, into the same class of functions. As one important application of this result, we produce a complete system of eigenfunctions of the operator (1-|x|^2)_+^{alpha/2} (-Delta)^{alpha/2}...

Network alignment (NA) aims to find regions of similarities between molecular networks of different species. There exist two NA categories: local (LNA) or global (GNA). LNA finds small highly conserved network regions and produces a many-to-many node mapping. GNA finds large conserved regions and produces a one-to-one node mapping. Given the different outputs of LNA and GNA, when a new NA method is proposed, it is compared against existing methods from the same category. However, both NA...

We propose a probabilistic transition system specification format, referred to as probabilistic RBB safe, for which rooted branching bisimulation is a congruence. The congruence theorem is based on the approach of Fokkink for the qualitative case. For this to work, the theory of transition system specifications in the setting of labeled transition systems needs to be extended to deal with probability distributions, both syntactically and semantically. We provide a scheduler-free...
